Most frequently asked questions
In the last decade Cornwall has emerged as one of the world's iconic destinations. From the dramatic coastline of the north to the sheltered bays in the south, from ancient moorland to soft river estuaries.
Cornwall forms the tip of the south-west peninsula of the island of Great Britain, and is therefore exposed to the full force of the prevailing winds that blow in from the Atlantic Ocean. The coastline is composed mainly of resistant rocks that give rise in many places to impressive cliffs.
It is those winds and waves that are constantly changing the look of the coast and the ever changing light, makes it a pleasure but also a great challenge, for every landscape photographer to capture its beauty.
The north and south coasts have different characteristics. The north coast is more exposed and therefore has a wilder nature. The prosaically named High Cliff, between Boscastle and St Genny's, is the highest sheer-drop cliff in Cornwall at 223 metres. However, there are also many extensive stretches of fine golden sand which form the beaches that are so important to the tourist industry but also to us landscape photographers.
Some of the places we will visit are Bedruthan steps with their vast sea stacks and endless rock pools, Porth Nanven and it’s huge pebbles, ideal for a sunset bliss, St Michael’s mount and it’s pebbled causeway, Godrevy point and the lighthouse on the small off shore island, Lizard point, the immense cliffs at Bosigran and it’s ruined settlement.
Sunrise at Porth Curno with splendid views from the open theatre at the top of the hill, Kynance cove, the beautiful and picturesque fishing village of Penbert Cove, Crackington haven, Port William, Hell’s mouth and more. We will be based at Kenton hotel, near Newquay, a perfect location for our excursions.
